SPRING BANK HOLIDAY SPECIAL
We have an odd thing here... we have a Spring Bank (public) holiday here in the UK and it's, errmmm, the end of Spring. Spring starts here in March the something or other but we, ermmm, have a have a Spring public holiday in, ermmm, May just about when Summer starts... or should start, weather permitting. The UK, Great Britain, Britain, Briton (or in America, 'Ingerland'!!!) - whatever you choose to call it is a stunningly beautiful country - small but perfectly formed. The landscape changes almost every 20 miles and some places can simply take your breath away ... north Wales, Bath, where HS Towers is situated in the gorgeous Vale Of Glamorgan, the Lake District, northern England, Scotland --- simply stunning... When the weather is right. And there's the problem - we live right on the cusp or two weather systems so it can be a bit (well ... actually, a lot) erratic and unpredictable - a bit of a bugger actually. But whatever, it was the Spring Bank Holiday here today and a lovely sunny day (until the rain came!) and also Memorial day in the US so I thought I'd do a little special to while away the time ... The sound comes from HS Tower's resident Dotcom analogue modular... Three voltage controlled oscillators, one generating a sawtooth, the other a ramp wave and the third VCO producing a swirly PWM, all set an octave apart then through the Clipper for some subtle distortion then into the Fixed Filter Bank and onto the VCS3 filter for some more non-linear distortions. And the delight is that the oscillators don't quite track and one of them wobbles a bit because of a dirty switch (I should get it fixed but I find quite endearing) so it all very 'organic' and random. It's a big, thick sound that has a lot of applications from fruity basses to smooth pads, strong leadlines etc and at ?3, it's a steal.
